The Internets

I would definitely call myself an Internet addict. Apart from really liking computers in general, I can easily spend half a day online at my computer. I get excited about new sites and new features, and new ways to get online. I guess some would call that sad, and secretly thinks I will grow up some time and get a Real Life(tm). Well, sorry, but I wont. This is my real life :)

Since it is a so big part of who I am, and I love to share things about myself (hehe), I thought I would share some of the services and features I use, and some that looks interesting but I haven’t gotten used to.

First of all, I’m a game nerd, and more specifically a Guild Wars nerd. Naturally, the official wiki have got quite a lot of my time. As Guild Wars is getting boring, it’s old now, I also spend less time on wiki. But I try to keep up to date with news and info.

For email and feeds, I use Google (Gmail and Google Reader). They are slim, simple and web based. Perfect for me. Don’t know what I mean with feeds? Basically it’s like a subscription to a newspaper, but it works for blogs, news services, social services, basically anything online. You add the feed adress to the feed reader of your choice and you get the new items and actions delivered to it instead of having to visit each site individually. As I have about 120 blogs, news etc I want to follow, it is really handy.

Social media is my new addiction. Services like Facebook, Jaiku and Twitter really make me excited with their possibilities. Although none of them really works the way I would want them to, I see potential and there are still nice things with them. I use Facebook every day, Jaiku less frequently and Twitter has kinda died on me since their huge downtime. Things like del.icio.us should also count to this category, although it is a bit less interaction between people.

Then there’s services in general. Flickr, for photos, my new love together with my Canon EOS 400D. Last.fm is cool, but I haven’t got around to discovering new music with it, I just check what my music profile is. As I use more and more online services, keeping track of login information is getting tricky. Passpack provides a nice solution. It requires quite a few extra clicks and typings, but the password generator and one click login makes it almost worth it (I need to start to use it more). Do remember it is still in beta.

These last few days I discovered Evernote and Goodreads, the first a note saver which can save text, images, music etc and the second a reading list and book review portal. They are both nice ideas, but I’m still not convinced they are worth using. Evernote is a bit slow and unstable, and ugly sometimes (design is very important), and Goodread is clunky, a bit hard to navigate and the fonts and navigation is confusing me. For blogging I use WordPress software and Binero hosts it for me.

I’m still looking for a nice to-do-list site and a better note/reminder one. Edit: I forgot to add that I would really love to try out Spotify, and online music service. Unfortunately it’s invite-only beta.
