A radically new design

I’ve been working on this new, light, design for a month or so, tweaking and testing. So much I don’t even know if it looks good or bad anymore, which I guess is a sign to either implement or discard. I decided to implement, so here it is!

I hope you like it :) There are still a lot of small details for me to fix, as always, and any bug report is welcome ^^

I need new challenges

A writer’s block is best fixed through writing. A lot of the blogs I used to read every day is now updating less often. They are all writing about writer’s blocks, missing time, lack of inspiration.. and I guess it influences me too. I want, and I need, to write, but I have no idea what :)

I ordered a book about CSS last week, and it has finally arrived. I was going to pick it up, but the package wouldn’t arrive until 18, so now I’m sitting here, waiting impatiently. I hope reading about CSS will give me even more inspiration to build something! I have a few fussy ideas in my head, but nothing serious to work on so far.

I’ve been thinking of installing a dummy blog, to use for design experiments and theme building. I also need to work on the blog/website for our student committee, but the guy designing it isn’t finished yet.. I’m not sure what to do :)

Country posts

I’m not sure if I should link up my country posts to Wikipedia (or anything else relevant), or if that is just unnecessary. I’m so used to using wikis, I want to link every interesting word, but that might simply be too much. Links might disrupt reading, but linking is great when just summarizing, as I’m doing. Maybe I should change my link color to a less disruptive one..?

More design focus

I’ve been trying to come up with new ideas how to improve the design on my blog for a while. It’s hard, I like it as it is, and there is also a step to take to learn new ways to design things. I can’t just get an idea and then learn to build it, I need to base an idea on how you build it :)

TkJ recently wrote about a plugin called TTFTitles, which transforms your blog titles to images. This way, you can use fonts and special designs that a certain OS/browser wouldn’t normally be able to show. I thought it was really interesting, but I don’t know if it’s a good idea or not, it might result in a weird design, since I design mainly with Firefox/Vista in mind (aka myself) and others view both fonts and font sizes differently.

Updates

I’ve updated some small design things on my blog theme, fixed some neat plugins (Lighter Menus is lovely!), updated my About-page and generally tweaked things to be a bit closer to perfect. :) I can’t decide if I like the second sidebar enough, or if I should just incoprporate it all into a single sidebar.

On another note, I’ve started a Swedish link dump/thoughts dump, which means there will probably (hopefully?) not be any more Swedish posts here. Just too much of a hassle to translate back and forth.

I’ve also considered making a blog roll. The blogs I read almost every day are so many they probably wouldn’t fit on a sidebar (without years of scrolling), so I’m thinking a separate page for it may work. Seeing as I have over 100 blogs in Google Reader so far, it is a long list and a lot of work to get it done. Is it really worth it? I add and remove blogs every week.. But I still feel I want to give something to those blogs (writers..) I really like.

Every little thing makes a difference

I’ve started building my own WordPress theme. I’ve bought a domain and some hosting, and I will probably move this blog over there later. But first, I want to finish the theme so I have something personal, and neat-looking, to move it to. Templates made by others are great, but they aren’t mine :) Plus, I’m having quite fun while building the template.

The problem is to find a design I like. I know I love black, grey and purple, but I also love blue and green. I’m not great with art and such, so I will never be able to make one of those really flashy and beautiful themes. And I can’t decide what’s better, really beautiful or “homemade”. Since I’m not willing to spend a life time on learning to make it all flashy, I’m guessing it will be simple and homemade. If I don’t get it finished soon, I might cave in and pick a finished theme after all. I’m impatient, and the important part isn’t the personal look, but the text, the ability to write and publish stuff.

I can’t decide! I hate decisions! :P
